挑戦と失敗の狭間

ふと「高校教師」の主題歌を思い出した。

森田童子の「ぼくたちの失敗」ではなく、夏木マリの「裸の青春」の方だ。

だから、大怪我をする可能性が高くなければ、やったほうがいい。やってみなければ何もわからないし、かすり傷程度なら我慢する価値がある。振り返れば、うまくいったことなんて意外とすぐに忘れてしまうが、失敗したことは強く心に残る。そして、その経験が後になって思いがけず役立つことも多い。

成功はつかの間の夢。失敗は大きな勲章。

そう、恋愛だってそうだ。うまくいく恋だけが恋じゃない。むしろ、失敗の中にこそ気づきや発見がある。

I strongly resonate with these lyrics. Rather than fearing failure and not taking on challenges, even if things don’t go well, the act of trying itself has meaning. If you don’t do anything, nothing begins, and nothing is gained.

Failure is a great opportunity to reflect on its meaning and dig deeper. The bigger the failure, the more it forces you to keep questioning yourself. Sometimes, it takes a long time before you finally understand what it truly meant.

On the other hand, regretting something you didn’t do is tricky. Why? Because there’s no way to examine it. All that remains is the fact that you didn’t do it, and whatever could have happened exists only in the world of imagination. Hypotheticals lead to speculation, expanding endlessly.

That’s why, as long as there's not a high risk of severe injury, you should go for it. You won’t know unless you try. If it’s just a scratch, it’s worth enduring. Looking back, we tend to forget the things that went well, but failures leave a strong impression. And often, those experiences unexpectedly prove useful later on.
